Jennifer Lauren Smith is an artist with a background in sculpture and the humanities, working primarily in analog photography, video, and performance. Her practice is informed by her experience as a deaf person — existing in a soundscape of fragments, residual hearing, guesswork, and hypervigilance. She utilizes this fractured, embodied process to create experimental visual narratives exploring manifestations of sound, silence, and body memory.
